Settings: Theme Builder

The Theme Builder settings can be found in your website’s backend (wp-admin) under WP-ImmoMakler → Settings → Theme Builder. Here you control whether WP-ImmoMakler handles the presentation of list and detail views itself, whether a template page you design takes over this task instead — and which property is used as the sample dataset in layout editors.

WP-ImmoMakler Settings – 'Theme Builder' tab with the options 'Plugin handles list and detail views' and 'Preview property'

Plugin handles list and detail viewsCheckboxactiveWhen active, WP-ImmoMakler automatically renders the property list (Custom Post Type Archive) and detail views (Custom Post Type Single) — you don’t need to create any templates. Disable this option if you want to build these pages entirely yourself in your theme or a theme builder (Elementor Pro, Divi Theme Builder, Bricks Builder, etc.) or with your theme’s own template system (such as Impreza’s page templates). You don’t need to disable the option for a template page. You then place content using native widgets/modules/elements or the shortcodes [immomakler-template-archive] and [immomakler-template-single].
Template pagesOverview—Shows which pages serve as the template for the list and the detail view, with their conditions and in the order WP-ImmoMakler evaluates them. This is configured on the page itself.
Preview propertySelectionLatest available propertyGlobal preview property — used as a sample dataset in all layout editors, unless a template-specific selection has been made for the respective template. Individual builders additionally allow a template-specific selection that overrides this global setting (see below).

Enabled (default): WP-ImmoMakler automatically renders the list and detail views of your properties using the included templates. You don’t need to create templates or place shortcodes — the pages at /immobilien/ and on each individual property detail page “just work”.

Disabled: You take over the design of the list and detail pages yourself. This makes sense when you:

  • need a header, sidebar, or a look on the list and detail pages that significantly differs from the default,
  • want to build the pages entirely in a theme builder (Elementor Pro, Divi Theme Builder, Bricks, Oxygen, etc.),
  • or want to place individual layout blocks at specific locations.

Native integrations with dedicated widgets/modules/elements are included for Elementor & Elementor Pro, Divi Theme Builder, WPBakery Page Builder, Bricks Builder, Oxygen, Enfold, and Avada as well as Gutenberg Blocks. With other theme builders (e.g. Thrive Theme Builder, Beaver Themer, Breakdance), WP-ImmoMakler works via the shortcodes [immomakler-template-archive] and [immomakler-template-single] — see Other Theme Builders.

With a template page, you design the list and detail views as a completely normal WordPress page — even with page builders that don’t have their own theme builder, such as WPBakery or Enfold’s Avia Layout Builder. WP-ImmoMakler then displays this page at the address of the list view or on every property detail page, with the data of the property being viewed in each case.

This is configured on the page itself: in the editor, the WP-ImmoMakler Template panel lets you set which view the page applies to, and optionally give it conditions (e.g. “Property type: House” and “Marketing type: Buy”). This settings page only lists the template pages — in the order WP-ImmoMakler evaluates them. You can also find all template pages at a glance under WP-ImmoMakler → Template Pages.

If a template page matches, it takes precedence over the Plugin handles list and detail views option for the respective view. Both views are independent of each other: you can design the list view using a template page while still letting WP-ImmoMakler render the detail view.

The full guide can be found under Template Pages.

The preview property determines which property is displayed as a sample dataset in layout editors — for example so that a detail view module in the editor doesn’t remain empty, but shows real fields, images, and texts.

Set the global preview property here under WP-ImmoMakler → Settings → Theme Builder. By default, the most recent available property is pre-selected. Choose a property that has all relevant fields well populated — this selection applies to all builders, unless a template-specific selection exists.

Template-specific selection (Builder overrides)

Section titled “Template-specific selection (Builder overrides)”

Individual builders allow overriding the global setting per template. This way you can, for example, store a house for a house template and a commercial property for a commercial template as the preview:

BuilderWhere to selectDetails
Gutenberg (Site Editor)Template settings panel → Preview propertyCombo box with search function in the right sidebar tab of the Site Editor
Divi 5Page settings → Content tab → Preview propertySearchable selection field in the Visual Builder; the preview of all modules updates instantly without saving
Elementor ProTemplate settings → Preview templateElementor’s own selection in the template sidebar
Bricks BuilderTemplate settings → Preview postBricks’ own selection in the template properties

When multiple sources are present, the rule is: template-specific selection overrides global setting. Specifically:

  1. The template-specific selection stored in the builder (Gutenberg Site Editor, Divi 5)
  2. Elementor’s or Bricks’ own template preview selection
  3. The global preview property from this settings page
