QR Codes for Properties – Expose Links for Print and Shop Windows

PLUS

WP-ImmoMakler automatically generates a QR code for every property that links to its online expose. There is nothing to set up: append ?qrcode to the address of the property detail view, and WP-ImmoMakler returns the QR code as an image.

This bridges the gap between paper and website: anyone who sees your shop window display, a newspaper ad or the for-sale sign at the property scans the code with their smartphone and lands directly on the online expose with all photos, floor plans, videos, virtual tours and the contact form.

Two QR codes for the same property, black on the left, blue on the right

Open the detail view of a property and append ?qrcode to the address:

https://www.your-website.com/immobilien/wohnung-dachgeschosswohnung-in-hamburg-mieten-wp1235/?qrcode

Your browser displays the QR code. Use right-click → Save image as … to save it as a file and place it in your layout software.

The QR code is delivered in the vector format SVG. It can therefore be scaled to any size without becoming blurry – from a small code in a classified ad to a large poster. Canva, Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Affinity as well as current versions of Microsoft Word and PowerPoint can insert SVG files directly.

Instead of the full address, you can also request the QR code by property ID:

https://www.your-website.com/immobilien/?qrcode&objekt-id=wp1235

WP-ImmoMakler looks up the property with this ID and redirects to its QR code. This variant is particularly useful for templates: in a print template or mail merge you only swap the property ID instead of looking up the address of each detail view. Upper and lower case in the property ID do not matter.

The link only returns a QR code if the property ID matches exactly one property on your website. Always use the complete property ID: the search also finds IDs that begin with the given characters, so wp12 matches both wp1235 and wp1289. If several properties match, or the property is not (or no longer) online, you get the property overview with the search results instead of the image – in layout software this shows up as a missing image.

By default, the QR code is black on a white background. Use the color parameter to set a different colour, for example your corporate colour. Enter it as a six-digit hex colour value without #:

This also works with the generic link via the property ID (?qrcode&objekt-id=wp1235&color=1E5AA0). An invalid colour value results in a black QR code. The background is always white, and the white margin needed for scanning is already included around the code.

The QR code does not contain the address of the detail view, but a link to your property overview with the property ID, for example https://www.your-website.com/immobilien/?objekt-id=wp1235. When scanned, WP-ImmoMakler redirects straight to the matching property.

This has two advantages for printed material you cannot take back:

  • The code stays valid when the address changes. If the title of a property changes, and with it the address of its detail view, the QR code you have already printed still leads to the right property.
  • No error when the property is offline. If the property has been sold or let and is no longer on your website, the prospective buyer or tenant lands on your property overview instead of an error page – and sees your current listings there.
  • Shop window display: Add a QR code to the property displays in your office window. Passers-by can view the full expose outside opening hours as well and send an enquiry right away.
  • For-sale and to-let signs at the property: A QR code on the “For sale” sign at the garden fence or on the construction site board takes people standing in front of the property straight to photos, floor plan and price.
  • Newspaper and magazine ads: Space in a print ad is limited. The QR code points to the detailed online expose without readers having to type a long address.
  • Flyers and leaflet drops: On “Just listed” flyers or postcards for the neighbourhood, each code leads directly to the advertised property.
  • Viewing documents: Hand out a data sheet with a QR code at viewings. Prospective buyers or tenants then have the expose on their smartphone later and can share it with their partner.
  • Trade fairs and property days: On roll-ups, stands and property cards at your booth, the QR code replaces the pile of printed exposes.
  • Presentations and meetings with owners: In a presentation for sellers, a QR code shows how the property is presented online.

The PDF expose uses the same QR codes automatically:

  • In the footer, a QR code linking to the online expose can be shown. Enable it in the back end of your website (wp-admin) under WP-ImmoMakler → Settings → PDF print view with the option Show QR code in footer. There you also set the QR code color and the QR code maximum size (mm).
  • In the section for videos and virtual tours, every video and every virtual tour gets its own QR code that links directly to the video or tour. It also uses the configured QR code colour.
